"Timeless Philosophical Truths without the saccharine aftertaste."
Do you listen to internet radio? I do. It's a most welcome and refreshing change from the insipid bullshit that gets broadcast via the airwaves. The ideology of what a disc jockey does is yesterday's news. They don't simply spin records and give the news anymore. They yammer. Incessantly. When they're not talking, they're waiting to talk. I used to dream of being a DJ, then something within the industry shifted and it seemingly became a much less honorable profession. Then there's the playlists: the same tired songs played ad nauseum every hour, interrupted only by ten minutes' worth of commercials, or more DJ yammering.
The aforementioned format may appeal to some, but I detest what radio has become. Internet radio has been a godsend because it does away with all that. It also exposes audiences to a FAR larger breadth of new music; not just the music that has the promotion machine of a large record company with deep pockets. In the past year I've probably heard fifty new and interesting bands that wouldn't have a prayer of being heard on commercial radio.
Well surprise surprise, the government wants a piece of the action by hitting them with exoribitant royalty rates, and broadcast radio doesn't even pay them. So, the joy of internet radio is in danger of becoming extinct because they simply won't be able to afford to continue operating.
